Hokusai Museum
*Introduction of the Hokusai Museum
This is the only museum in Japan which displays hand paintings by Katsushika Hokusai. About forty of those hand paintings, which were completed during his stay in Obuse, as well as two festival floats with his paintings on the ceiling are on permanent exhibition.

The Japanese Lamp Museum
This is the only full-scale museum of lamps in Japan. In addition to the 963 pieces, which have been designated as important cultural properties, the lighting equipment used from the 17th to early 20th century in Japan are displayed.

Takai Kozan Memorial Hall
Yuzen-ro, a retreat of Takai Kozan, a wealthy merchant and cultured person, and Hekii-ken, a studio built for Katsushika Hokusai, have been restored. Here, paintings and calligraphic works by Kozan and his friends as well as related materials are displayed.

The Obuse Museum/ The Nakajima Chinami Gallery
In this museum surrounded by a flower garden, the works by Nakajima Chinami, a promising Japanese painter, and five festival floats are on the permanent exhibition. They also have special exhibitions for paintings, calligraphic works, and sculptures.

Contemporary Chinese Art Museum
Works by prominent Chinese artists are exhibited. Special exhibitions by rising artists as well as great masters of Chinese painting are held in addition to the workshops and lectures conducted by Chinese painters.

Chikuma-gawa Highway Museum
Paper art work of "Yanagisawa Kyoko/ Chikuma-gawa Ujo" with the Chikuma River theme is displayed along with pictures on the screen. In the permanent exhibition, natural features and the life style around the Chikuma River are introduced.

The Taikan (Bonsai Museum)
The choice wood of the Japan Bonsai Club, miniature trees, older than 1,000 years, as well as precious bonsai trees possessed by celebrities are displayed in this museum. The bonsai garden in the site is the oldest in Japan. You can also enjoy the works by artists associated with the Shinshu region in the Shiki Art Gallery next to it.

Ryoan (Old Ceramics Collection)
Old Karatsu, Imari, Kutani, and Momoyama pieces are among the permanent exhibition in this ceramic museum. There is a section where you can actually touch and get a first-hand feel of the works by our predecessors. A cafe is also provided in the facility.
